Billanook College, Part Two
Billanook, from day to dusky.
Colours inspired by the Yarra ranges, where moments of dry envelop the landscape. A black-shouldered kite stands proud, gazing out over the surrounds. Meanwhile to its right a white-naped honeyeater and two fantails balance to reach the height of the kite, flanked by an emperor gum moth. Working on this commission for Billanook College I wanted the stack of birds to emulate what it is to be part of a community and to celebrate the communal values around Billanook and its students - where working together you can also reach great heights.
I LOVED diving into colour with this one, and painting up the dry tinged eucalypt sprig was a personal highlight.
Thank you to @billanook_college_arts and @brettferrysart for allowing me such freedom with this design and the ability to throw myself into the landscape and the school community, and for having me as an artist in residence and making me feel so welcome.
